Prologue
The main theme I wanted to explore in my poem is the transient nature of life as inspired by the picture below. A bird perched on a branch of a bamboo tree will only be there for a short period of time – there for a moment, gone the following second. It aptly illustrates the impermanent nature of things in life, the fleeting relationships formed and the fact that life as a whole will soon be over.
However, ironically, bamboos have their own rich historical and cultural aspects. A bamboo tree is a Chinese symbol of longevity of life and in India, it is used to symbolise friendship. Yet, as I mentioned earlier on, life and relationships are fleeting. To further illustrate how brief life is, I have decided to write a haiku. A haiku can truly capture the essence of life’s transience as it only consists of 3 short and brief lines. I certainly hope that this haiku is adequate to succinctly capture the main theme being explored.

Yellowing leaves of bamboos -
Life’s impermanence!
