When you look at this photograph, the first thing you see is the lamp. This is because the black coloured lamp is a mismatch with the greenery in the background. In addition, the reflection of the sun’s rays off the water surface surrounding the lamp makes it eye-catching. The light surrounding the lamp reflects a somewhat divine quality of man’s creations as it seems like it has a halo over it. This is like the painting “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci, halos are also placed above Jesus and his disciples to show that they are sacred. Due to the above reasons, it can be said that artificial constructions are superior over the natural surroundings.
However, nature in this photograph is in abundance as compared to the solitary lamp which shows the domination of nature over man’s inventions. Hence, it can be said that this picture portrays the balance of man and nature as they both have equal dominance over each other.
The above photograph shows a sign placed along a road. The presence of such a sign in a bush is peculiar because such signs are usually found alone in the urban landscape. A kind of fusion between man and nature is depicted in this photograph as the vibrancy of the flowers and the plant creates a balance with the dull colour of the sign.
However, the plant unlike the sign is alive and flourishing unlike the screws on the sign which are rusting away. This shows that nature will continue to thrive while man’s creations will slowly vanish. Furthermore, the plants will soon enshroud the sign and this demonstrates the power of nature over man.
The light in the background shining on the plants also signifies that nature will continue prospering as the plants can photosynthesize while the sign remains a dead entity. In a nutshell, man’s artificial constructions are subservient to nature due to the reasons stated above.
In this last photograph, a man is using a grass cutter to trim the grass. The presence of the tall and sturdy trees towering over the man shows the power of nature over man. This is contrasting to the fact that the trees, no matter how firm they are, can be uprooted by the use of technology. Hence, in this case, this photograph portrays somewhat symmetrical dominance of man and nature.
The man in the photograph trimming the grass blends into the surroundings as he is an insignificant part of the entire photograph and the clothes he is wearing also camouflage into the surroundings. Therefore, in this case, there is a domination of nature over man as man is seen to be a small part of nature.
Another point that shows the superiority of nature over man is the fact that the man is using a grass cutter, which is to say that he cannot reach the higher areas like the trees. This proves that man cannot change the form and structure of nature if he is not equipped with technology. However, nature can reveal its wrath and wreak havoc on Earth anytime and man cannot retaliate to it.
