Wordsworth’ poems influenced me where he expressed Man’s destruction of Nature causing his eventual loss of connection with it. My poem is a simple and gentle reminder of man’s obstructive presence in nature. It is closely linked with the pictures below. The overall message is to encourage man to regain his connection with nature and coexist peacefully.

The picture depicts a collection of rocks around a pool of moving water. There is a black post which is an odd interruption to the picture. In the background, there are small plants with labels identifying them.

The picture depicts a bonsai plant which is growing in a strange fashion, as if reaching out for something.

Observations from nature of man

I am a big portly and respected rock

Part of nature, as secure as a lock

Never once overcome by wave or rain

Decades I have stood without pain

I ponder everyday at my curious black neighbour

It has been there as long as I can remember

It seems to withstand all forces of nature

Never quivers at even the fiercest creature

My green little cousins, they love to play games

They are oh so vibrant and even have names!

They are carefree and lively, only afraid of trampling shoes

Nike, Adidas and Jimmy Choos, please go away, SHOO!

I started a seed, small, like a drop in the ocean

Everyday a pair of hands, gentle motions

Giving me water, nutrients and care

From a seed I grew into a bonsai with flair

I was content, just being a pet of Man

Never questioned nor gave a damn

But when i finally matured and grew

Out of my pot, what i saw was hard to chew

Never knew, so wide grass could stretch

So tall like buildings, trees could match

Amazed was I, seeing nature in its full splendor

Idyllic, overpowering me with its wonder

I yearn to reach out, burning with rage

I yearn to escape from my confined cage

My heart in turmoil, a stormy rain

Locked in the world’s deadliest chains -- Man
