picture 1: crane towering over nature picture 2: cigarette butt in the middle of nature picture 3: tree root growing in the middle of asphalt

Looking at this picture, it can be seen that there is a crane towering above all the trees. The photograph shows that no matter how high the tree grows, man could always be on top of it. The crane which is in the middle of the picture is being pictured as being more important as even the trees are dwarfed by it and pushed to the side of the photograph. The crane is also used for building buildings, it shows that even in the middle of nature, man has the power and ability to construct an urban society. It can be also imagined that in the near future they would be buildings and trees being cut down to make space for man. This shows that man is superior over nature and can exploit it for his own benefit. This also shows that nature have no place in an urban society and slowly it is being pushed out of the picture by man.

This is a picture of a discarded cigarette lying in the middle of leaves grass and the soil of the botanic gardens. This shows that man is disrupting nature by polluting it. In this picture the grass and the leaves are portrayed as being pure and innocent until a cigarette has been carelessly thrown on it. The cigarette is at the center of the picture, which may signal its importance, even though that it is small compared to the leaves and grass around it. The cigarette, even though small, could cause a fire and destroy the nature around it. This shows that in this urban society today man not only has a disrespect for nature, by polluting the environment by throwing a cigarette, it also shows man’s superiority over nature, as even a used cigarette, which is useless and harmless to man, might be harmful to nature as it might start a fire and burn the plants around it.

The picture shows that an extended tree root had grown on the asphalt causing cracks to occur. This picture portrays that no matter how hard man has tried to push nature out of their urban society, nature has always found a way back into the picture through little crooks. In this picture nature might be seen as taking its revenge on man as the crack is grown in the middle of the asphalt. The root grown there is almost waiting for someone to trip and fall. This picture also show that nature is being sandwiched by man, as the tree root is being surrounded by man-made asphalt. The tree root is seen as protesting against man’s actions of creating an asphalt path in the middle of the botanic gardens, and that the tree root is trying to take back the land that is rightfully theirs. The tree root also serves as a reminder to man not to abuse nature and that no matter how powerful man is, he does not even have the power to stop something as simple as a tree root growing on his asphalt path and causing cracks.
