Saving us

A lake, alone, laps upon the shore
Amidst the industries of Singapore.
But though it is utterly unaided
The beauty of it has never faded
Alas, too soon will be its last day
When money and wealth take over the say

A sprouting tree, alone it grows
Overshadowed by its greater foes
Little sun does it get,
And hardly ever, is it wet
But one day it will take revenge,
And all its sorrows it shall avenge.

Two swans, alone, in the lake
They are not ready to forsake
The love between them does not cease to exist
He follows her, he follows swift.
No arguments, no confusion, no tears
As he alone can allay her fears.

Red flowers alone, they symbolize love,
Passion, commitment; which we can’t get enough of.
It is the sweetness, the fragrance, the smell,
That ultimately casts the spell.
But even that would be lost on most
Who are now nothing but ghosts.

If only, if only, nature could save us.

This poem is basically about how nature is independent, but not isolated, and it lives in harmony with one another, but man is completely disconnected from it. Every stanza contains the word 'alone' to show that man is not like a lonely island, set apart from the rest of the world. The first 2 stanza's are more about how nature is being oppressed by humans but it does occasionally take revenge. The last 2 stanza's are more about relationships in the human world, and how they are becoming more and more fake. The theme is inspired by 'The world is too much with us' and discussions on how man is becoming more and more alienated from one another.
